Patriarch Porfirije visits Montreal

His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church visited Canada at the beginning of October to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Montreal. The Patriarch arrived on Thursday, October 3, and was warmly welcomed at the Montreal airport by His Eminence Metropolitan Mitrofan of Canada, local clergy, and a group of children from the parish. The following day, His Holiness was received at Holy Trinity Church with a solemn doxology service.

On Saturday, October 5, he presided over the Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity, which has served as a spiritual home for the Serbian Orthodox community in Montreal since 1954. He was joined by Metropolitan Mitrofan, His Eminence Archbishop Irénée of Canada from the Orthodox Church in America, His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian of Canada from the Romanian Orthodox Church, His Grace Bishop Nikon, vicar of the Serbian Patriarch, and numerous clerics from various local churches.

Following the Liturgy, His Holiness had the opportunity to meet with the children of the Serbian community. The celebration concluded with a banquet honoring both the church’s milestone anniversary and the visit of the Serbian primate.
