We are pleased to inform you that the project "Renewal of the fund of the "Stevan Jorgović" library”, financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia (The Office for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region) in the amount of 200,000 dinars has been completed.
The goal of the project is to refresh and develop the existing library collection with new publications and to bring them closer to the Serbian users and encourage them to learn and not to forget their native language, history and culture in a bilingual environment (official languages are French and English). We have targeted books for three categories of users:
Books for children who are only learning Serbian and those who speak Serbian but only learn Cyrillic. In environments where children first learn Latin alphabet, learning Cyrillic is second and we have found difficulties in finding books for beginners in the Latin script, since children in Serbia first learn Cyrillic.
Books for users who speak Serbian and want to read in their native language in order not to forget it and to transfer their knowledge.
Books for older users who learn our language and want to learn more about Serbian culture and Serbian people.
Having in mind the aforementioned categories of users, we have procured new books. 202 books have been bought. All books are searchable in the library’s electronic catalog and can be borrowed during the Library’s opening hours. A list of books purchased through this project is available in the Library.
During the duration of the project, we regularly announced the acquisition of new books and the number of library members increased by 100. Our statistics show that users are now more likely to borrow new books.
We also organized a creative workshop for children in which we tried to bring Serbian Cyrillic through the game.
We thank everyone who helped us in the realization of this project.
